Rehearsal will be Thursday.

But since I'm putting up an OOC, I have a couple of questions:

1. ...what was this plot that a bunch of the longer-time players mentioned they wanted? And what would it entail? Because I'm totally groovy, but I have NO IDEA what you're talking about.

2. How many performances would you guys be interested in? Two is the usual, but since we have a larger cast and more people into it, might want to bump it back to three. Is up to you guys.

3. Is there anyone who needs Geoffrey specifically for any problems with cast/crew stuff?

4. What days work for you guys for the performances? That's right around Christmas time so I'd like to get it straight before I a) forget about it and b)make comically unhelpful RL plans while c) some people aren't returning.

No need to answer RIGHT NOW OMG, but would be helpful when you can.

DARREN: pleased
SO! There was 'stuff happened'. Then, which I didn't post up, there was broken glasses. There was Macguyvering of broken glasses so that I could function and go to work, but there was EXTREMELY PAINFUL HEADACHES due to the fact that Macguyvering is not as good as non-broken glasses because I am blind as a bat. Hence the not being around much because all computer staring time had to be given to the job type thing.

THAT SAID! New glasses arrived, they are on my face, headaches are mostly gone (there will be Adjustment To New Glasses, obviously, but that's a day and manageable), and I can dive back in. Apologies for being gone, as well as for not putting anything up previously.

Thanks for your patience; I'll be trying to get back into the swing of things this week, though of course: Halloween.

OOC: NEXT PLAY

This has been squished a little, considering how things with the last performance worked out, but the next play will be

A Midsummer Night's Dream

Tryouts will be the next two Tuesdays, with the cast list posted Monday, Sept 21st before rehearsals start the next day.

We welcome new characters, old characters, students, townies, teachers... anyone on the island.

We also welcome anyone interested in being part of the crew, who should have a little more of a schedule/stuff to do/etc. etc. this production considering all the costumes, effects, and hopefully the set stuff. There will be postings up about tryouts, the time commitment (it's really not that bad, promise) etc. in the next week for those interested, or just look back in Geoffrey's journal as he doesn't really have much IC stuff in there. The man lives/breathes/eats theatre.

Hi,

The moving saga continues.

That said, the play must go on ^_^

Do next Tues and Thursday work for everyone as performance dates? I'm cutting into next semester there, but I don't THINK there's anyone leaving who's a part of the play (if there is, please let me know and we can adjust things). Geoffrey will be putting it up in the play rehearsal today as the dates, but they can be handwavily changed if that's a problem.

...in the interest of getting Geoffrey more time to reclaim his actors (as well as to give me a little breathing room because ZOMG WORK STUFF today and I'm ready to scream at certain people in accounting), rehearsal will be Thursday.

Thanks.

The Causeway - Tuesday at dawn - 8/04

crazy
He only had a small bag with him, really; he wasn't bringing his play-texts (all right, maybe one or two, just the important ones) and he had precious few clothes. The kid had brought muffins, so he'd pilfered a few of those, and one of the sandwiches in the fridge in the back had been packed away too. And now, it was a matter of waiting for the car.

He knew she was coming. Despite their many partings (not so much sweet sorrow as necessary ) and reunions over the years, she'd come. After the phonecall he'd made the other night, she'd come. And, perhaps regretably, so would he. Some part of him felt like a failure for leaving them with him, but he'd been the only one available and the only one willing to come to work pro-bono. Something about a spirit of freedom in the arts that he'd learned in an Inuit colony or something.

If the production was cursed, maybe he could take the brunt of it.

Geoffrey couldn't sit there, though. He needed... he needed padded walls, just for a couple of weeks. Padded walls and people giving him things in cups and the ghosts of plays past his only companions. A fix-up. A check-in. He knew the man running the place well enough to know he wouldn't have trouble leaving.

So there was very little regret as he slipped into the car, but maybe, well, maybe just a little bit of worry. Either way, off they drove.

[establishy!]
oh holy shit
Geoffrey was really starting to wonder about himself. Of course there was the play and there was the being-a-beaver and there were the various things going wrong with the production. That was practically to be expected around here.

But just now, he could swear he heard voices. Voices prompting him to do things. Dangerous things. Terrifying things. Soft, echoing voices that came with... was that 80's sax music?

...I only wish I'd had to make this up but no, this song exists )

Suffice to say that should someone come into the theatre, they would find it empty other than the sound of muttering from one closet.

[mostly establishy, but hey, go ahead if you're insane]

As most of the cast and crew is, in fact, off in the wilds of Arrakis? Rehearsal is canceled this week. I am going to put up a 'Boards post, however, for anyone who'd like to visit, say hello, work on character stuff, etc, etc, etc.

...would it be all right if it was Thursday with handwavey notice given to all and sundry? I'm just really really WIPED from travel (13 hours in an airport + 9 in a plane) and working yesterday AFTER travel, etc. Cannot brain Shakespeare at the moment.

2 Black Swan Drive - Friday afternoon - 5/8

Geoffrey stared at the script.

He shouldn't.

It was a bad idea.

This place had enough trouble.

It was very difficult to stage effectively.

Geoffrey knew this. Of course he knew this. He knew, like everyone who worked in the theatre knew, that no one should do the play. That it was, at best, a necessary evil. That there were holes in the plot, some unevenness to the dialogue (which only supported certain scholarly claims that parts of the work had been 'contracted' out), and the morality was, in a word, questionable.

Geoffrey also knew that he had his own theatre for the first time in ages without someone breathing down his neck, a pool of interesting and compelling actors (even if none of them could be considered 'trained') and some actual funds to get things done. He had a crew, and he had a stage manager, and he had everything he needed.

Everything but the courage?

Oh no, he had the courage. He had it. He had the mad courage of a man longing for something to stir the hearts of an island full of teenagers.

"I dare do all that may become a man;
Who dares do more, is none."

Yes, Geoffrey had his play.

[establishy, but come by if you like or comment; mind the cackling, though...]

OOC: Next production

ooc: mentally unstable
All right, folks. Now that I've got a handle on this production thing (mostly, ish, possibly, TRYING!), I'd like to (hopefully) make the productions a little more fun and a bit more crazy.

Part of Geoffrey's canon is that whatever play he's doing reflects on his life. During the first season of Slings & Arrows, they did Hamlet and he had to deal with the ghost of his former director hounding him to finish the production. Second season, MacBeth, with unlucky turns of fate and the actor playing MacBeth trying to start a veritable mutiny of actors vs the director.

You get the jist, yes?

So... I'm wondering: what would you like to do for next production?

MacBeth would include pretty much bad luck striking the production left and right (and, if you like, your characters) at a few turns. I'd challenge you guys to making the production as difficult to stage as possible and you'd be welcome to drive Geoffrey as far up the wall as you like.

Othello would involve Geoffrey having greater and greater trouble keeping himself relatively sane. It might strain some relationships between actors and director (only for those up to it) but hopefully, by the end, end up well. (S&A is a DARK comedy, but it is a comedy; no doom, thanks).

Otherwise, the productions will run the same as usual. Nothing's changing (unless you have a suggestion and feel free to leave it HERE!)

Questions, comments, shiny icons...

OOC: Date for Last performance: prefs?

just woke up
Looking at Graduation vs Play? I'm thinking another date might be best for the last performance. Any preferences?

Or, if you'd like, we chop it off. Just do two. I'm good with either option.

Actors, potential audience members, anyone is welcome to weigh in.

Two things: due to the fact that I'm (YAY!) coming down with a lovely cold today, I'm going to do play stuff Thursday because even Dayquil does not make for a good rehearsal.

...REALLY.

And considering graduation, one of the play dates is a LITTLE rough. Any thoughts on another day for it?

Sorry for those who really wanted Tuesday. SP is love?

2 Black Swan - Monday, 2/09 - midmorning

  • Feb. 9th, 2009 at 10:40 AM
just woke up
Geoffrey woke up oddly chilled.

Of course the place wasn't exactly heated properly, and it was a bit open space so it was harder than usual to take care of that. Yes, he slept in a closet, but it wasn't as if the door was sealed.

That said, he wasn't expecting what he found when he woke up.

"A CURLING RINK?! WHAT THE--WHAT THE FUCK?!"

Of course he remembered thinking that he was Chris Cutter and that the Golden Broom was at stake, and that his old drama professor Mr. Nelson was his father and/or coach. But he was a madman! He was supposed to have delusions. His delusions weren't supposed to leave a curling rink in the audience area of his THEATRE!

Someone had a hell of a lot of work to do before tomorrow.

[establishy or open as you like]

OOC: an FAQ for the Plays

For any new players, and for any old players who might be a little unsure of how this all works (now) and might be interested in being involved (tryouts start soon!), I've written up a little FAQ.

Exeunt, pursued by a bear. )
